Overview
Controlled student access allows you to determine when a student can work on one of their goals in EdReady. This can be helpful if you want to ensure that students don't progress in their study paths and want to temporarily remove access.
For example, if you don't want students working on their math study paths outside of class such as in the evenings at home, you can block their access to work on math at the end of class or at the end of the school day. Students then will not be able to work on their math study paths until you unblock their access, indicating they can return to their work.
Blocking or Unblocking Student Access
- Log in, and then click the Manage Account button
- On the Groups tab, click the Report button to access the Group Summary Report
- Select a Goal from the dropdown menu. If desired, you can also apply othe reeport filters. When you are ready, click Run Report
- Click the checkbox in the left-hand column for any student you want to Block or Unblock
- Click the Bulk Actions button above the table
- A pop-up window will open:
- From the dropdown menu, select Block access to indicate you want to stop a student from accessing this goal
- If a student's access is already blocked and you want to allow access again, select Unblock access
- You can see that the top of the pop-up window will include the number of students to be Blocked, which will be just the students whose checkboxes you selected.
If you want to update all the students that match your on-screen selections, based on current report filters, you can click the Apply change to all records found checkbox under the dropdown menu. - When you are ready, click the Ok button. If you had enabled the “Apply change to all” option, you’ll see a secondary popup confirming you understand your current selection. Click Yes to proceed.
- You will see an on-screen success message and the report will refresh automatically.
Viewing Blocked Students
In the Report
When access is blocked, you’ll see the students’ on-screen score and progress information displayed with a red line through it.
There is also a column available in this report related to this feature: click the “+” button to enable the “Blocked” column and add it to your on-screen display.
Once shown on-screen, you can use this column to sort and filter your students by their current access state. This can easily allow you to find all the currently-blocked students by filtering for “Yes” in this column.
Student View
Students will still see their blocked goals on their dashboard, but they won’t be able to access them, as the standard “Go to Goal” button is disabled.
Access needs to be unblocked before this student can access the study paths in this goal again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I block access to both math and English at the same time?
A: If you want to block a student from accessing both math and and English, the two goals need to be blocked separately.
Q: Can the blocking and unblocking happen automatically, or at a scheduled time?
A: Student access must be manually controlled, so someone must visit this report to Block and Unblock student access when you want to use this feature.
Q: If I blocked a student’s access, do I have to be the one to unblock it?
A: No: anyone who can view that student’s access in the reports has permission to unblock (and block) that student’s access. This means that if a school wants to control student access outside of school hours, the School Administrator can help block access for all students, versus each teacher needing to manage it for their classes individually.
Q: What happens if a student is actively working in EdReady at the time their access is blocked?
A: If a student is already in a study path when their access is blocked, they will be able to finish whatever activity they are in the middle of. Upon completing a test or returning to the study path after reviewing learning resources, they will see a pop-up window stating:
Access blocked
Your teacher has temporarily blocked access to this study path. You cannot continue studying in this goal at this time. You will now be taken to your Goals Dashboard.
They will then be directed to their EdReady dashboard.
