User Warnings
If users do not enter the correct password when attempting to log in, they will see an error message like this:
We did not recognize that password. You have # attempts left. When you have no more attempts available, your account will be locked for ONE HOUR. Reset your password before you get locked out. |
IMPORTANT: after 5 incorrect login attempts, the user's account will be blocked. More information is available here.
Self-Resolution: Reset Password
Preferred Method
If the user cannot remember their password, they can use the Forgot Password functionality available on the Sign In page. A message will be sent to their email address or phone number and they will be able to select a new password.
Encourage your users to do this BEFORE they have exhausted all 5 login attempts and their account has been locked. You can find instructions on resetting your password in this Help Center for Students and Instructors/ Staff: we encourage you to share these instructions with your users.
If the user has already requested a new password, they will not be able to receive a new temporary password for 24 hours (more information here). If they cannot access that message or have already blocked their account, the Admin Resolution below will reset their account and let them log in again.
Admin Resolution: Reset Password
Alternate Method
If you have permission to Edit Admin/ Student accounts, you can reset the user's password manually. This can be helpful when the student has become confused or frustrated by their own password reset attempts. This process will also clear an account blocked too many incorrect login attempts.
The new password you set will be the student's new and only temporary password. For security, the student still must set their own password when they log in.
Follow these steps to manually reset a user's password:
1. Login to EdReady and click Manage Account from your dashboard
|
||
|
2. The Groups tab will open by default. Depending on the type of user, click on the Students or Admins tab at the top of the page | |
3. Find the user you want to update in the table (it may be helpful to use the Filter/ Sort capabilities. 4. Click the Edit button () in the user's row |
||
|
5. Click the Change Password button and the on-screen display will update. 6. Enter the temporary password this user will use in the Password and Confirm Password textboxes. 7. Click the Save button
|
You must manually share the chosen password with the user: they WILL NOT be automatically notified as to what their new password is. When they next login, they will need to replace the password you provide with their own secure password.
