IMPORTANT: DO NOT manually change the essay status if you want the student to edit their essay in EdReady. Once you manually grade a student's essay, they can no longer access the essay writing platform within EdReady to make edits. They cannot see the essay grade in EdReady. They also cannot access past versions of the essay to see comments. All essay interactions for the student will be offline from this point forward. You must communicate with the student directly about their essay grade. |

Assignment Overview
If you are having students write their essay offline, instructors need to share the assignment directly with their students.
In order to conditionally enroll in a reading/writing-met course at a Texas post-secondary institution, the student needs to earn a C or better on the essay portion of the TX College Bridge. The essay must include:
- A minimum of four (4) paragraphs – intro, two (2) body, conclusion;
- A minimum of five (5) sentences in each paragraph
Requirements for Grading the Essay
The essay will be graded by a certified/credentialed teacher, and the grading should be based upon the essay rubric.
Students who are close to passing with a C, but need some intentional revision, can have a second chance to revise and pass this essay with a C or better based upon intentional feedback given by the instructor.
Each instructor should use his/her own background, as well as their knowledge of the assignment within the broader scope of the class, to determine the grade that a student has earned.
Manually Reporting Essay Grades
This feature is intended for use by those who read and grade essays offline and need to enter the grade in Texas College Bridge so the student gets credit. Manually changing the student's essay grade will block the student from viewing or editing an essay they submitted online.
DO NOT manually edit the essay grade to solve a problem with a student's certificate or their access to the essay. Instead, contact tech support for help, using the HELP button at the bottom of the screen.
- Log into Texas College Bridge and click the Advanced Reports button
- From your reporting dashboard, click on the Student Data tab.
- In this table, locate the student you're interested in and click the Study Path Details link
- You will see a pop-up window: click on the goal and study path you're interested in to be taken to the detailed student reports.
- Note: you can click any English study path in the goal, but will only be able to add a grade for a student that has completed the initial diagnostic for at least 1 study path in the goal.
- Click on the Essay tab
- Then, click on the Submit Grade for essay written offline button.
- A pop-up window will appear. In the Grade dropdown, select the grade (Manual Pass or Manual Incomplete) the student has earned. You also need to confirm that you are reviewing and grading this student's writing offline, outside of EdReady, and that you understand that entering a manual grade will prevent your student from using the essay writing portion of Texas College Bridge.
- Click the Save button to submit the student's grade.
